WHY IS VEGAS A GOOD GETAWAY?
There is an obvious excitement about going to Las Vegas. It’s labeled “sin city” and offers the opportunity to party the days away. The honest reality of Las Vegas is that there is soo much more beneath the surface to do and see besides the drinking and gambling that most associate this destination with.
THE ADVANTAGE OF CHOICE WHEN PICKING FLIGHTS!
The main advantage that you will notice once you decide that Las Vegas is your next vacation is the vast amount of flights that arrive in the desert town daily. I know that I continue to use New York as my example (where I live), but these same strategies might apply to you wherever you are located.
The example that I am using is the amount of savings we get from flying out of Newark New Jersey compared to JFK in Queens New York. If we are willing to drive the 45 minutes to that airport, the savings can be upwards of $300 per ticket! Using this method has proven in the past to have 2 people round trip WITH hotel for 4 nights for under $900!
HOTEL CHOICES- FANCY STRIP VS. DOWNTOWN
Just like the previous example where convenience and closeness of an airport means higher costs, the same applies when picking a hotel in Las Vegas. Most people think that “the strip” is the only option and the safest bet when booking. The truth is downtown Las Vegas has a bunch of hotels available for 1/4 the price. If you dont need a giant extravagant hotel room and only care about a bed, a shower and a TV, then downtown is for you!
Obviously with the big name strip hotels you will be in greater luxury, but staying downtown will show you that there are plenty of shops, restaurants, and the most entertaining buskers under the neon canopy almost 24 hours a day!
FILLING UP YOUR DAY
There have been Vegas trip in the past where a week long alcohol induced blur is all that remains on the flight home. As I’ve gotten older the amount of attractions to do during the day have grown so numerous that we had to stop planning out our days. Once you do your research, I would recommend that you keep all options on a list and go to do things spastically.
The best example would be to rent a car and move around town. Area 51 is an artistic compound on the west side of town that has more crazy involved exhibits than you can handle. Other fun things include the pinball hall of fame which is more like the biggest old school arcade you have ever seen. Some days when you aren’t in the mood to do much besides explore you can find yourself walking up the strip from Mandalay Bay Area all the way to Circus Circus. Now that I mention that, Circus Circus has free acts and they are awesome!
IN THE MOOD FOR SOME FOOD
Food is something that really cant be reviewed because everyone has their own favorites. The best advice I can give is that if you want to eat a lot and not spend a lot, then research the buffets that are scattered everywhere. Being that we are constantly on the go, as of recently our eating has taken a back seat and we find ourselves grabbing small items on the go throughout the day/night.
The “D” hotel downtown has a 24/7 hotdog restaurant that will never disappoint. For even cheaper at night the “Downtown Grand” will give you a hotdog and a beer for $2.00!! Evil Pie is down the block for a quick (but gigantic) slice of pizza, and if you want the best prime rib in Las Vegas, go to Seigals 1941 at “El Cortex”.
These are a few favorites we have downtown, but as you walk from property to property even on the strip, you will discover there are countless options available to you.
WHAT TO SEE
The only thing that can be said for a trip to Las Vegas is you will want to see EVERYTHING. If you are downtown on Fremont, just walking back and forth will have you entertained and sometimes shocked at what you see in the street. Buskers push the limits of the law with what they will do, and after a few laps around you will be hooked.
As mentioned above, walking the strip will also give you more than you can handle. The Bellagio fountains are a free show. The showgirls march up and down the strip for pictures, and walking through the sweet smelling casinos will always excite you.
HOW TO DRINK ON THE CHEAP
Everyone kind of knows that while you gamble you drink for free. The truth is that free drink can sometimes cost you $20 or more depending on how much you lose. The best advice is that there are TONS of pharmacies, gift shops, and other small stores that will have 25oz beers and other drinks for cheap 24 hours a day.
Of course some properties have specials like OYO has a $1.75 beer and Casino Royale always has $3.00 drinks, but for the most part getting a cocktail in the middle of a casino is going to cost you a lot more. If you have a room with a fridge, stock it up after a trip to CVS!!
THE ADDICTION OF LAS VEGAS
The one thing that most people realize is that after their first trip to Las Vegas, they are already booking their next. This town has the ability to pull you in and make you want more and more until you fall down. This isn’t just in the sense of Alcohol, but the never ending lights and attractions will only make you ready to get back to sin city as soon as humanly possible.
