Travel After Divorce

There was a time in my life where I was around Mickey Mouse in Walt Disney world around small children and a wife I absolutely resented. Fast forward many years later and I found myself having the most amazing time in the same location, only this time….there were no screaming kids and an ugly redhead. This my friends, was doing Disney as adults!!!!

THE ORIGINAL IDEA

At first we decided “Florida” because we know that the simplest and cheapest way to go from gloomy New York to the sunshine would be that choice. I randomly booked Orlando with the idea to rent a car and go to Cocoa Beach for a simple three night getaway. Boy was I wrong.

TWO NIGHTS BEFORE THE TRIP

My beautiful girlfriend calls me two nights before we leave with some trepidation in her voice. After a brief discussion she lets me know that the weather forecast for the beach location we were going to was dismal, and the beach might not be the best idea.

Once I realized that the weather would suck there was no reason to head to the beach. Seeing that it was actually warmer and nicer if we stayed in central Orlando I booked a cheap Days Inn hotel and knew at the very least we would be warmer and in a hotel together…. when you are in love, that is seriously enough.

HOW WE ENDED UP AT OUR FIRST THEME PARK

We previously went to Florida the year before, and had free tickets on reserve for Sea World. I knew that a quick Uber from the Days Inn would at least get us to roller coasters and a day of fun. I knew that my girlfriend really wanted to see the whale show….(whale? manatee?), okay orca show. After the quickest commute to a theme park, we were finally faced with a day of rides and fun, all while having a few cocktails! Things could not be more better for a last minute vacation…. or could they?

THE START OF DISNEY

I told my girlfriend of the horrible trip to Disney I had to endure years earlier with a fat redhead, two screaming kids, and a mother in law. I also told her of a story to where all I wanted to do was to leave the kids with the mother in law and go drink around the world at Epcot Center. I then learned of her previous bad experience at that same park and the light bulb went on. We HAVE to fix our previous bad experiences while in bad marriages in Disney.

FROM SIMPLE RELAXATION TO PARK HOPPER

The only goal was to go to Epcot and have some drinks while looking at fake countries from around the globe. Once we got to the ticket counter I learned that because of my line of work, it was almost the same price to have a 4 day park hopper pass then for the two of us to just go one day to Epcot Center! Apparently this was now a Disney Vacation.

The attempt to “Drink Around the Word” at Epcot was failed instantly once we arrive in Paris. (For those who dont know that isn’t even the halfway point). Knowing that we in fact had the park hopper pass, it was time to take a break from the alcohol and try the new sky hopper pods things that take you over to the Disney Movie Studio park. Within a few moments we were airborne in our own little pod being whisked over to the entrance to our new park.

I could go into detail about each park, but that first day was simply amazing being slightly buzzed and going between theme parks WITHOUT kids attached. Finally I was enjoying Disney as an adult with a hot blonde.

Magic Kingdom

The Magic Kingdom day was fun as always, however it was there that we learned its a dry theme park!! Thankfully we had one flask of alcohol with us, but that didn’t last very long. The lines were very long throughout most of the day, but the best part of the time there was watching the parade and of course there was the after hours mickey celebration party.

We spent the extra money for the Mickey Party and found ourselves on more rides and hunting through the park for hot apple cider and cookies (which were amazing). Earlier that day we ate in future land on delicious burgers and we got to really enjoy the end of the night fireworks holding on to one another. It was a moment in time!

MY NEW SECOND FAVORITE….ANIMAL KINGDOM

I never spent time in this park in the past and luckily by beautiful girlfriend has. She knew exactly what big attractions we needed to wait on first, and unlike Magic Kingdom, this place has a beer stand every 20 feet. The day was spent laughing uncontrollably at each other, and the lines were very small! We went on the Himalaya coaster 8 or more times in a row.

BEING OUR FAVORITE, EPCOT AGAIN!

Our second time drinking around the world we knew the main places we wanted to see and especially eat! The day before in the America section of the park, we found the most amazing turkey dinner stand. After half the world was complete, it’s amazing to have a wholesome dinner like that and the price wasn’t that bad at all.

I would recommend that while in Disney without kids, you spend as much time learning the food options you would like and head back to them. The Epcot experience included their amazing fireworks show, and at the end of a night it was a short Uber back to our Days Inn hotel.

WHY WE WILL GO BACK

This next trip to Florida will be back to Miami, but I am already considering booking another Disney getaway for us for September. The money saved on the park hopper pass makes it completely worth the trip. Depending on the money situation I would consider staying behind Epcot at one of those resorts, but we shall seed.

Doing Florida together without kids took us to Sea World, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and the funnest time two people can have the Days Inn.
