As we mentioned earlier in this blog, a getaway as a couple doesn’t always need to be expensive, or distant. In this adventure we found ourselves walking to a winery on the east end of Long Island, for a getaway that was more than we expected.
WHERE ARE WE LOCATED?
On Long Island there are two forks. To put that into a perspective the upper and lower parts of the fishtail. On both forks you will find some of the wealthiest celebrities, private and public beaches, and wineries as far as the eyes can take you. Luckily my beautiful girlfriend lives on the North Fork in the middle of wine country.
DAY ONE… CHEESE, PICKLES, AND TWO DIFFERENT LOCATIONS
Walking out of my girlfriend’s house, it was a 5 minute walk on this beautiful summer day to winery number one. Duckwalk winery is a big open room finished with wood all the way up to the rafters in the ceiling. Walking up to the very large bar, we learned that a tasting of 4 wines is only around $18.00. Then the game began to each make our choices to see what we picked that were the same.
After getting our 4 samples (which still seem to be too small for the price, but whatever), we make our way outside. That day it was perfectly overcast with clouds in the sky, but the temperature was still really hot. The back area of this vineyard has a giant tented area to your left, and about 20-30 tables out in the open in a field straight ahead.
Sitting down we realized something unique about where we were. We were the only people in the winery!!! It’s kind of rare that you get a winery to yourself but we made good use of our time filming funny review videos and snacking.
It’s unique to be in a place where you can bring your own food, but at this location we had a cooler bag filled with pre made cheese slices, cracker, pickles and mustard. A perfect combination!! After a little over an hour we packed up and started for a walk home.
A SECOND WINERY BY CHANCE!
Crossing the street we started our way on the 5 minute hike up the road when we came up to the Corey Creek winery which is owned by Bedell. We swore never to go back to this place after my girlfriend fell off a bike in their parking lot (half jokingly), but on this day we decided to give it another shot.
Walking up to the back porch of the building we were met with the sounds of live music being played and people all around seeming to really be enjoying themselves. We made our way to seats in the sun and made our way to make our wine selection inside.
The interior of this place is smaller, but seems to have more charm to it. We selected two white wines under the recommendation of the girl working who made it clear that their wines are not sweet whatsoever.
Like usual we planned on making mockery videos of our wine tastings, but the instant we both took a sip we realized how totally amazing it tasted! Turning back around in my seat I found myself enjoying the cover band and it wasn’t long until we were making friends. The environment of people playing games, singing along to music, and sipping wine made for the consideration of joining their wine club.
DAY 2: TIME TO HEAD BACK TO THE WINERY!!
After the first amazing experience, it was decided that we 100% would be returning to Corey Creek the following day. It was reassuring to see that the environment was just as exciting with one of the best one man cover band/musician playing any hit you could imagine. Sitting on the couches the wine seemed even better than the day before.
I was convinced at this point to join the wine club which gets you custom shipped orders of wine, percentages off all items in the store, and two FREE glasses of wine on every visit!!! Spending the day playing card games, the experience was just as good if not better than the day before.
NOT EXPENSIVE!!!
I would totally recommend using a winery as a getaway because it costs very little to enjoy an amazing day. Either paying by the glass, or enjoying a bottle you get value due to the environment and entertainment around you. Load up the snacks and get your picnic basket ready!
Also remember that a day like this is only made possible because of the person you are with. As I write this I am sitting in court and about to sign my divorce papers. Where I am right now is worth every nickel because of the life I have with my girlfriend….travel well my friends!
