As time goes by there is more and more to be gained by the short single day getaways. As you might have previously read, we are only limited by our imaginations and thoughts into where to spend a day with the ones we love. It doesn’t have to be a crazy long or expensive vacation as I came to learn during a day trip to Block Island, in Rhode Island.
GETTING THERE IS HALF THE FUN

As I mentioned in the Connecticut Casino blog, there is complete and total adventure when it comes to taking a ferry to another state. What made this ferry different was the high speeds it gets you there. Going 30 Miles Per hour flying almost over the water, the morning spent on the Sea jet out of Orient point was beyond exciting. The waves were a little choppy, but as usual we found ourselves having a few morning cocktails on our way to Block Island.

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The sun was shining, the ferry pulled us into a cool little marina full of day trip boaters all roped together in a party like environment. The sun was shining, and the second we got on land we were met with a bustling energetic town. You can tell some of the buildings were old and historic, and once we started walking through town, we were met by an individual asking if we would like to rent bikes or a Moped. Moments later we were riding bikes in any direction.
BEACH TIME

Once we got about 5 minutes from the central town I looked to my right and saw that there was an entrance to the beach. The weather was perfect, and there was nothing we wanted to do more than to lay down and relax in the sun. The next few hours were spent dozing off while reading a book on a perfect summer day. The water was warm enough, and was perfect to cool us down periodically as we baked on the sand.

LUNCH TIME
Upon biking through the town we realized just how congested it was to get through, so we chained up the bikes and set out to find some crab cakes or clam chowder. We found a hotel and restaurant that was actually in operation in the 1800s and were seated on an outdoor terrace looking over the beautiful ocean. The environment was perfect for a romantic lunch and I was happy to find the award winning clam chowder was amazing. The food overall was perfect, and with full stomachs we were going to attempt to bike around the island

HILLS THAT CHANGED OUR MIND
Once we started biking it was clear that the amount of hills were going to be a bit annoying to navigate. Not that we couldn’t do it, but after eating the last thing we felt like doing was physical workouts via bicycle. Once we returned to the town center, it was a no brainer to turn in our bikes and upgrade to a moped.
MOTORIZED ADVENTURE

After one of the funniest and nervous little road tests around a shack, it was time for the two of us to mount our scooter and set off in any direction on the island. Within a few minutes I was confident driving with my girlfriend on the back, and we were now going 20-30 miles per hour getting an amazing look at the beautiful scenery of Block Island. After about 30 minutes we found ourselves at a historic light house. Exploring this place was fun, and then we decided to take a break and have some sodas at a picnic table.

ICE CREAM AND MORE EXPLORATION
In town there was a Ben and Jerry’s which was the perfect treat at the perfect time on a hot day. After eating our snack we realized we still had more than an hour before our ferry left. Once we got back on the beach road, it was a scenic 20 minute drive down the coast to the end of the island with beautiful views of yet another lighthouse. The drive back and forth at the end of the day was the perfect ending to what was a perfect day.
ONE DAY ADVENTURES MAKE THE DIFFERENCE
Like mentioned earlier. it doesn’t take a week long vacation to make memories that will last a lifetime. Finally being next to the person you love is motivation to continue singing adventures and to enjoy every moment of traveling after divorce. To think this is only the beginning of a lifetime of adventure!! Have fun!!
