Hello from New York City, where I have been stuck without travel for almost 3 entire months!! Because of my employment, we had no choice but to cancel our cruise plans 2 days before we set sail. On top of that when we were finally getting ready to go on our other cruise. we were told that the boat was broken and that we would be getting our money back!! Bad luck to say the least.
As I sit here I can formally say that in 2 days from now we will be flying off to the Dominican Republic to finally get some well deserved Vacation time together. I had a lot of time to go online and look at videos to get excited, and that is part of the fun of traveling with the person you love.
ONLINE OBSESSION
Okay so I’m not gong to lie, I have the ultimate job. I literally am getting paid to sit next to a phone that will never ring and have 8 hours a day to kill while I sit here. I can honestly say that I have seen every video from You Tube that gives reviews on the property we will be at for the next week of our lives. Knowing what the food is like and knowing what the layout seems to be has been one of the most fun aspects of getting ready for our vacation.
Once I made it through every video, it was time to watch the videos in Spanish to get further insight from visitors of the resort. I used to have a job where understanding Spanish was crucial, and to my surprise I could follow the review videos with very little issue!
THE LISTS IN MY HEAD
Another fun part of getting ready to travel is going over the list in my head when it comes to packing. Knowing exactly what is going to be needed for an upcoming trip has everything to do with the destination. Our Vegas list, is far different then our Dominican Republic list for instance.
Having the thoughts of ensuring I have the necessities like medication and toiletries is where it starts. My thoughts usually end with the things I forget almost always. There is a reason why I have 4 sets of flip flops so I ensure that I remember them to save me the usual $30. Thinking before the packing begins leads to excitement.
THE PRE-TRIP
The most fun time in the pre-trip excitement is right before its time for the airport. Usually we have an early flight which means the bags are packed and by the door the night before. It goes without saying that I sleep very little the night before a trip, and that is because I am going over in my head the things that I need to bring, the times of the travel to the airport and most importantly, the countdown until my beautiful girl gets to my door.
Staying up late the night before makes it all that much fun and relaxing once the pre-flight cocktails start flowing. Before we know it, the three of us are on the train headed to the airport (we brought a friend this time which makes it all that more fun).
After reading this I realize the message I am trying to convey is that although the adventure of traveling is the experiences we have when away. The truth is the overall experience of being a traveller is to take the time to appreciate the excitement we create even before we go wheels up to our destination.
As always, I would like to recommend that everyone not only appreciates the lifestyle we have now, but communicate it with the ones we love. I don’t thing an hour goes by when I don’t talk about the plans for an upcoming trip with my love. That alone makes our relationships stronger and our lives more fulfilled.
Travel Well, Enjoy the ride, and I will see you in the Dominican Republic!
