“It’s finally time to experience the world with our new happy lives”

All it takes is one day together

One of the biggest difficulties in a relationship sometimes can be the time you have to spend apart from the person you love. After a recent training event with the military, there was nothing I wanted more than to see her the second I returned home. In this case all it takes is one day to make me feel happier and level headed.

GETTING READY

The first thing that I thought about when I got home was how excited I am that after being away for so long, that I will have my girlfriend in my arms. The fact that after almost 3 years of being together, I am more excited for the anticipation of her arrival than ever.

Earlier on in our relationship (before meeting each others kids etc), we only met in hotel rooms. Yea for the obvious benefit of what activities occur there, but it was more about the excitement and the laughter we offer each other. Now it’s exciting to be changing my bed sheets and starting laundry while tracking her location making her way to my house!

WHAT TO DO?

The truth to what is going on in my relationship is that there has to be almost zero planned for the two of us to have a good time. On this evening, we found ourselves walking around my neighborhood as we always do, cocktail cups in hand. We created little cute games of pointing out our favorite houses. Walking around getting excercize all while making each other laugh is more important to me than any planned event.

It was shortly thereafter that I found myself cooking hotdogs, baked beans and Mac and cheese. After eating it was time for a romantic comedy and sitting on the couch together. I remember looking at this girl falling asleep, and appreciating just how lucky I am to have this woman by my side for life.

THE FOLLOWING DAY

After a great nights sleep, once again we find ourselves walking around the neighborhood in search of a deli. The one I thought I knew was on a totally different block, and it was her idea to walk to a totally different town in search of breakfast.

Again entertaining ourselves by looking at the different houses we like (and hate), a walk for miles seems to go by in the blink of an eye. Once we reached the deli, I took the initiative to have lunch for breakfast. Once she heard my order it was simple enough for her to say “I’ll have the exact same thing”.

Sitting on a bench and eating ham sandwiches might be the greatest meal in the world on that beautiful day. The sadness I feel that she has to leave after such a brief stay sucks, but I understand the need for my girlfriend to be with her children.

HOW I AM FEELING

Right now as I am writing this there is a HUGE update to our future and the future of this blog. We have not one, but TWO cruises booked scheduled to depart October and February.

It’s important to reflect on just how excited I am for the future. To experience our first cruises together is going to only make our laughter and love stronger and bigger than ever.

As I stated earlier, the size and length of time together does not matter, as long as it’s spent with your soulmate;….. happy travels!
