There is nothing bad to say about finding the things you like to do with your significant other and doing them regularly. On a recent three day weekend my beautiful girlfriend and I found ourselves combining multiple activities we like doing and cramming them them all together for an epic time!
LEAVING WORK EARLY
I decided on that Friday afternoon that there was nothing else doing, so I left work in the early afternoon. I knew that I would have to drive the entirety of Long Island from the west coast of Brooklyn all the way to the North Fork, so getting ahead of traffic was the goal. Apparently I wasn’t the only person in New York City to have the same thought as I entered the Belt Parkway. It was a THREE and a half hour drive in traffic until I arrived, and to my surprise I wasn’t even irritated. The new car I bought makes long journeys pleasurable with all the technology it has inside. It was time to start our weekend vacation.
TO THE WINERY!!!
Joining a wine club means we instantly found ourselves on the short walk next door where we were back at our favorite winery. Walking up the deep pebble driveway, I had a smile on my face as we joked and almost skipped our way to what we knew was going to be a fun time. Upon entering, it is always nice to be greeted by our friends who work there, and handed a big glass of wine that has probably been in existence for less than a few mere weeks.
Once the doors open up to the back deck, we can hear the familiar sound of live music being played. Sitting in the sunshine, playing cards, snacking on what we brought with us and enjoying the summer evening. If we did nothing else the entire weekend this would have been good enough for me, but the adventure was soon to continue.
THE FUN CONTINUES
Upon getting back next door to my girlfriend’s house, we were met with the instant smell of a home cooked meal. The homemade stuffed peppers we left in the oven were already fully cooked as her son turned it on about 30 minutes prior. I cant even describe just how amazing this homemade meal tasted in the early Friday evening during summer.
Getting to bed early(ish), after watching our favorite show “Bar Rescue” meant we would be ready for the mornings next adventure. At about 0715 we were both awake and ready as her mother came to pick us up. My girlfriend’s mom and dad were awaiting us but today we had another friend that was joining us. His name is “O.D.” , the sweetest 5 foot tall 93 year old man was coming with us as we crossed the Long Island Sound to go to Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut.
THE FERRY IS MY FAVORITE PART
The ferry over to Connecticut consists of a lower deck for cars and an upper deck full of booths, tables, a huge snack bar, a huge cocktail lounge, and any amenity you could imagine. If you are a worker there is even 2 hour internet available of only a few dollars.
I like the ferry because it’s more time that I am sitting across from the woman I love, having a few white claws, and playing cards while laughing. The hour or so it takes to get across Long Island Sound is full of fun and anticipation for the casino adventure ahead.
FOXWOODS CASINO
After we recently went on our Las Vegas Trip, this trip to Foxwoods had very little to do with gambling and more to do with just hanging out together. Of course we found ourselves putting a few dollars here and there into a slot machine, but just walking around was good enough for the two of us this day. The main gambling we did was to slow play a couple of Poker Machines at the bar so we can continue to have free drinks and laugh.
The Highlight of the day believe it or not was a brief moment when we found ourselves sitting against a wall outside of the property. The sun was shining through the atrium and was just masked enough to where we were warm, but not burning. I found myself nodding off during this 45 minutes of relaxation, and this will be something we do in the future…. taking a quick break. Allegedly we may have commandeered an abandoned motorized scooter to amuse ourselves, hahaha.
TIRED YET? WELL ITS FIRE PIT TIME
Just as we were winding down it was time for the trip back home. After a few drinks on the boat home we decided to make one of our favorite Vegas Drinks from scratch in my girlfriends kitchen. A few citrus infused vodkas later, and we were jamming out by a fire pit and eating left over stuffed peppers. The night was capped off by consuming S’mores and getting ourselves to be to sleep off what was already a crazy marathon of events.
A FEW ERRANDS AND THEN NEW YORK CITY
After we took care of getting her sons bike fixed, we tasked my girlfriends son with staying back at my house and keeping my cat company. We purchased more White Claws for the train ride in, and before you knew it, we were on our way to the middle of Manhattan.
The train is always my girlfriend’s favorite part of going places. We find ourselves as we alway do, laughing and having a blast over a few cocktails. A short 45 minutes later and we were in the middle of New York City and headed via subway to the lower east side.
Going to a concert at Pier 17 at SouthStreet Sea Port might be the best venue on the face of the earth. The breath taking view of the Brooklyn Bridge as the background behind the stage was perfection as the sun slowly fell beneath the horizon. Singing, dancing, and having over priced beers was only overshadowed by the sight of my perfect girlfriend with a big smile on her face.
ONLY THE BEGINING!!
As I write this it’s apparent that the most exciting thing in my life is the thought that a weekend like this is a starting point for where I will be in the future. There will 100% be plans in the future to travel, sail, and visit as many places as possible. Being bought out of my previous home makes for money and happiness coming my way!
Take the time to realize that being in love with the right person this time around makes all the previous hardship worth it!! See you on the beach!!
